Forum Theatre

Forum theatre is different from traditional drama theatre. We have a facilitator which we call a Joker. Forum theatre is a type of theatre in which the audience is the most important player, because forum theatre will not give a solution. It is very different from traditional theatre, where the audience watches. This method comes from Brazil, in South America, and has gradually developed over the last 15 years. It is also known as "Theatre of the Oppressed". Oppressed indicates those who don't have power, often local communities who don't have the same power as companies and governments and for this reason they are deprived of something. It refers to people who may have a voice, but nobody listens to it. They can be unemployed, members of minorities, workers with less power than their bosses and often women. This method uses theatre to help the oppressed. Forum theatre is a theatre for communities.
