Khmu Culture & Arts

The Khmu people are one of many ethnic groups in Laos, an indigenous group with the majority of Khmu living in northern Laos.

They have their old traditions, culture and beliefs, beautiful musical instrument made from bamboo, leaves, fruit, brass and silver. Their beautiful art and handicrafts appeared in Lao society but some have disappeared because of lack of preservation.

Storytelling, organic farming and herb collection from forests are still applied in Khmu societies in Lao.

Most Khmu stories tell about how humans and animals can communicate, and how humans and the forest have a good relationship
